Name: The I-Snap
My final gap: In what way might I create a better iphone holder to allow the user to snap in the iphone to use it like a little TV or Book while sitting at a table or lying down on a sofa or comfy chair.
Final Prototype: Unfortunately, I did not get beyond my Alpha prototype. Due to a lack of the right materials and parts, I was not able to create a working Alpha prototype. It was extremely difficult to find the right clamps as well as a gooseneck by itself. So, I ended up using wire and clamps from the hardware store.
Lessons Learned: This project was a tremendous experience and I learned a lot. For that alone, I am very happy with the results achieved. Moreover, I take some pride in coming up with an almost identical design that is already available as a product which I found on Amazon after completing my 10 design concepts in week #3. Another lesson that I learned that trying something out is much more effective than just studying it. For example, I realized how heavy an iphone is and how strong the clamps have to be to hold the device in place. The same is true for the gooseneck which needs to be really sturdy.
Looking forward: Despite the fact that there is already a great product out there there are certainly ways to improve it. For example, the clamps are a little hard to squeeze. How about just docking the phone into a charger end and using the holder as charging station at the same time. Is there a way to use smaller clamps and less thick goosenecks to reduce the weight and material requirements. It would be cool to make the gooseneck almost invisible from the distance so it would look like the iphone hovering.
